ABOUT THE MIDWIFE

I did not grow up knowing about midwives or the kind of care they provide. When I had my first child in a hospital I had what would be considered a quick and easy birth. But I was left feeling disappointed and wanting more out of the experience. In my next labor I made some progress in my search for a better birth experience. I wisely labored at home, but only until transition. My husband drove me to the hospital where my son was born 14 minutes after walking through the doors. Wow! I never wanted to do that again. I knew then that I would never give birth in a hospital again. After doing my homework I was able to find midwives who helped me have two wonderful homebirths. I was able to labor at home and stay where I felt safe and comfortable, and where I was surrounded by my family. |
When my youngest child was three years old I found my interests gravitated toward birth, women and midwifery. I began attending births as a doula in 1999. My practical experience as an apprentice midwife, attending homebirths, lasted for four years with several skilled and knowledgeable midwives graciously sharing their knowledge with me. I attended Birthingway College of Midwifery, in Portland, where I received an excellent education and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Midwifery. I am Certified through NARM (The North American Registry of Midwives), and Licensed through the State of Oregon. |
